Gateway Parts

is it true that GATEWAY computers are the lower end computers to HP?

my friend told me that last night cause she has a HP laptop and i told her im thinking of getting a GATEWAY laptop but she says there the same computers cause HP makes GATEWAY cause its just the lower end of there line? is this true?

1. Its the lower end of Acer, but i guess they could be all the same. They are all made in china anyway.
2. No HP has nothing to Do with gateway. That being said Gateway is one of the lowest brand there is out there and they are the makers of acer as well. HP is the best in my opinion and the also make Compaqs so i would recommend either one of those.
3. HP does NOT make Gateways! smack that bitch. Gateways are made by Acer
4. Your friend is misinformed about the industry and all of the purchases that were made. HP and Compaq ---- Same Company... Acer and Gateway ---- Again Same Company... Dell and Alienware ---- Again Same Company... As you can see there are many dual companies out there...Personally i do not like any of them for different reasons...i don't feel that any of them are "Lower End" than the partner computer... Here are my reasons for disliking certain brands... HP/Compaq have problems with motherboards, i have seen more laptops from this company that need a motherboard replacement than any other company... Acer/Gateway I have seen far too many that need a LCD replacement. This is caused by hinges that are quite strong, but a lid that is less than sturdy to make the laptop lighter...unfortunate...otherwise would be a halfway decent laptop... Dell/Alienware is just way too damn overpriced sometimes....especially the Alienware ones. Parts for any dell if you were to get them from the manufacturer can be purchased elsewhere for less than half of the cost. Of all laptop brands out there I recommend either Asus or Toshiba. I have heard great things about Asus laptops, but have not had the pleasure of actually working on one....I have owned 2 toshiba laptops...one of which i sold for $500, and the second i bought for $570....I was happy with the first one, but the second one had a better graphics card.
