I have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop and I am seeing Microsoft Windows Recovery Console on the screen in startup.?

I always sees on the screen when I am booting up [ Microsoft Windows Recovery Console] and Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. I selected the latter as I always do. But I am interesting to know what the recovery console is and what it is used for, and when can I use it if needed. Give me in details as brief as possible.

The Windows Recovery Console is used when you have an issue that cannot be solved from within Windows... for example, if your install of Windows is hitting a BSOD crash (Blue Screen of Death) and you need to run ChkDsk to repair any corruption, you could do it from the recovery console. end of line
