How do I insert my memory card into my gateway laptop?

I have a Gateway NV58 and it has a cardreader. I want to insert my memory card from my camera into the slot however there seems to be like a fake memory card already in the slot (which was the way it was when I bought the laptop) and I can't seem to take it out. I don't know if I'm not doing it correctly but I tried pushing it in so it might eject and pulling it out but the thing doesn't budge! How do I check if the disk drive indicator is on/off? Sorry.. :/
