Computer Power Supply Wattage consumption, how it works?

Planning a custom PC. Power Supply Question Let's say for example : total wattage all parts used together = 429W Let's say I buy a 1200W power supply for it. 1. Will the power supply "suck" in 1200W of power from wall? 2. Will it just suck in the necessary amount to power it?
