Gateway Parts

I have a Gateway Laptop. I was watching a TV show on the net. It made a funny nosie and shut down.?

I tried to bring computer back up. I only get as far as the black screen with white writing offering me to reinstall with disc, choose "safe" etc. Could some part have blown out or could it be a virus. I have had computer for about 4 yrs. Would it be cheaper to get it fix or buy a new one?

1. If you have tried to use the safe mode or the repair modes and they do nothing then I think your CPU or motherboard may have died through over heating Restart and press the F8 key to enter the BIOS screen (your key press may differ) there check to see if the CPU and the HDD are recognised reboot if they are.
