Gateway Parts

Is my computer power supply enough?

I have a 350W PSU. My desktop has 2 gigs ram, a dual-core 3.1 ghz, and on board graphics. I want to add a 1 gig PCIE video card and ram for gaming. So will I need a bigger PSU to power the new parts? And if I do, how big should it be?

  1. Go for a 500w psu....corsair is a good brand
  2. I'd get 700w minimum but it should still run fine. I only say this as 2 of my 400w psus have died and my specs are fairly similar to yours. After I upgraded I haven't had a problem.
  3. if you upgrade, ya should not need more than 450w.
  4. PSU's are ALWAYS over specified. If you want moderate gaming with say .. A Radeon 5670 or a Geforce gt240 then you could get away with the 350w unit you have. If you are going for anything more powerful then yes you may need more, 650w is plenty to run ANYTHING other than an SLI or Xfire setup. Use this to see what you Really only need. http://educations.newegg.com/tool/psucalc/index.html
  5. It would help a lot to know what PSU you have. But we absolutely *must* know what graphics card you're talking about.
