Why won't my gateway laptop run my operating system disc?

I have a gateway M series laptop. Model number W650A. I put the boot disc in set the disc boot option to first priority under BIOS settings and it still says missing operating system. Help?

1. Try tapping F9 (or something similar) during startup to get to the Boot Select screen. Should give you a list of things you can try to boot to. With CD in drive, select your CD drive from the list. If you only have a plain CD drive, and the OS disc is a DVD, it won't be able to see it.
2. Try pressing F12 when the system first starts...then be prepared to press any key to boot from the cd/dvd:) Cheers
