Why would a Compaq Presario CQ50 notebook lose part of its screen?

I have a Presario CQ50-211NR Notebook/laptop. Today I started it up (running Vista) and I could not see the opening DOS stuff at all (instead it was blank, with some light blobs "bleeding through" esp. on the right side). Windows did eventually start, but it was compressed in size with blank areas on the right side (about two inches), and the bottom (about half an inch). Even weirder is that the Windows start icon on the lower left appears to be "melting" downwards into the blank space. I've tried to change my display settings, but they just go back to what they were (they will not change). Has anyone ever heard/seen anything like that?

  1. doesnt sound good :O could possibly be your screen going to hell.. maybe it just needs a new led panel which shouldn't cost too much :l
  2. its definitely not software, you need your LCD screen replaced. it was subjected to something way beyond normal. like extreme hot or cold, or pressure. SOMETHING happened that destroyed your screen. it will be a costly replacement and if your manufacturer decides they wont replace it under warranty youll have to find a shop to do it.
