Gateway Parts

Which computer should I buy? i3? i5? AMD Athlon? Desktop? Notebook? 3GB? 4GB? 6GB?

Okay, I'm going to buy a new computer to replace my 1.6 ghz desktop. Now the problem is, which one should I buy? I have several computers that I can choose from. And the problem has 3 parts. 1: Desktop or Notebook? I already have a monitor that can connect to any desktop. In addition, I'm not going to carry around my computer around too much for now. Still, I think that a notebook could be an excellent choice. 2: Which processor? This computer has to last for 4-5 years. At that time, I cannot upgrade to another computer. So, I have a choice of those 3 processors above. What kind of person am I? Well, I'm not some kind of gamer freak, but I will definitely do normal tasks, like going on the internet checking email, making documents and spreadsheets, ect. But I'm kind of a multimedia person. I might use Photoshop Elements 7 and organize my pics. 3: Which memory? I might multitask sometimes. So, which memory should I choose? I don't have much time left, so please help me. Storage is no problem to me. Remember that I'm going to use the computer for about 4 to 5 years (longer the better).

  1. lol easy, get an apple, or at least save up for one cause they're totally worth it.
  2. 1. notebook in case you ever want portability. 2. get the i5 at least and i7 if available since you will be doing multimedia 3. get at least 4 gb so you can multitask more
  3. Try this: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptop-buying-guide/ Be sure to read this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/60098-35-general-laptop-advice
  4. Desktop, I5 is the best for speed, and 6gb of ram is the best u listed, for multiple-tasking, but unless u r using hard core applications, 4gb of ram for multitasking should be fine
  5. Desktop-- It lasts longer/more durable i3 Processor-- allows multitasking but isn't too far overboard I suggest 4GB or RAM--it's what i use...
  6. You would be better off with a laptop that has at least a 200GB hard drive, and at least 3GB of Ram. That way, you can have Windows 7, and any files you want and have an attractive desktop. Here is another suggestion. Try Linux. It runs on most laptops, in most cases it auto configs with your wifi card, and then if you need any drivers for it to work properly, it will get them for you. Also, Linux is immune to windows viruses. Even a firewall is not needed in most cases. Anyways, go with big space and good ram, if you do that, the type and brand really does not matter much, it is all about how you use it.
  7. If you wish for your computer to lasts for 4-5 years you will have to go for the best that is currently available & that might cost you a whole lot of money. I would suggest you to go for a mid-range configuration for now, then change it after 2-3 years with a new one, thereby it will remain new & save you a lot of money. For such a configuration go for a Core i3 with about 3GB of DDR3 memory. If you still want the computer to last for 5years+, which is unlikely due to the rapid technological advancement you will have to go for a Core i7 Extreme with about 8GB of DDR3 memory which will set you back by a lot of money. So, it is best to go for a Core i3 with 3GB DDR3 memory & change it after 2-3 years. Good luck.
  8. First, if you can get the same processor and memory on a desktop and notebook then get the notebook (as long as you gave wifi). Second, there's different types of those 3 processors, but I know i5 is better than i3. Getting a dual (or more than dual) core processor would be good. 3 GB of memory is enough if you aren't like hardcore gaming and want to get a cheaper price.
