Choosing between two laptops: Gateway NV49 vs. ASUS A52JC. Which would be the best choice?

The Gateway come with i5 processor, 4 GB ram, NVIDIA 1GB, 14" screen, and 640 GB HD 5400 rpm The ASUS come with i5 processor, 2 GB ram (I'm going to ad another two later), NVIDIA 1GB, 15.6" screen, and 500 GB HD 7200 rpm Which of the two would be best? Ive read so many reviews on the two brands and im a little frustrated at which to choose. Granted i like the 15.6" screen of the ASUS and the touch and feel of the laptop. Though the 640 GB HD of the Gateway is appealing. Im confused as to what the rpm means for the hard disk. Does it make it faster or better or what? I wanna get the ASUS but stuck on this question. Advise would be great.

1. ASUS provides very good products and stands behind those products with good warranty policies and services. Gateway has horrible customer service and warranty policies in my opinion and experiences with them. As far as the details you posted, even though the gateway has a larger capacity hard disk the asus hard drive is a higher quality drive.
