What's the difference between these HP COMPAQ laptop power jack parts?
I have a Compaq Presario R3000 Laptop ''notebook'', and it has the very common problem with the DC input power jack. Internal ''cold solder'' joints have come apart, and no power gets to the motherboard. I want to order one from the UK... but what is the diff between the DC 010, the DC 011 and the DC 015. They all cost about the same. see the prices here: http://shop.benl.ebay.be/i.html?_kw=R3000&_kw=power&_kw=jack

- With the DC010 and DC011 the ground shielding does not extend to the front of the jack. It simply covers the top, and acts like a bracket to help hold the jack securely onto the motherboard. The difference between these two jacks is the positive power pin. The DC010 has a solid pin that extends through the jack, bends 90 degrees down, and solders onto the motherboard. The DC011 has a pin that extends through the jack, and is connected to another piece of metal for that 90 degree turn. The positive contact that solders into the motherboard is attached to the pin in the center of the jack by a pressure flange. The DC015 has a ground shielding that extends to cover the front of the jack and *into* the front of the jack, as well as a solid center positive pin like the DC010. The main advantage of this is the added ground contact between the DC jack and the power plug. I would recommend either the DC010 or the DC015, as the center pin assembly of the DC011 can become loose at that pressure flange, causing power issues. As to which one you should get between the DC010 or the DC015, it really doesn't matter.... unless you want to get technical, and then you should get one that matches what you had originally. Oh, and avoid that Yellow one. See the size and width of that positive pin? You'd have to wreck your motherboard to get that "blade" in the little hole on your motherboard. end of line
