How do I upgrade computer power supply with compatible part?
I have a Hp Pavilion P6740f: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/product/BV525AA%2523ABA It only has a 250w power supply. I am trying to upgrade it to 500watts or more for under 90$ My choice would be: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+-+Builder+Series+500-Watt+ATX+CPU+Power+Supply/2193223.p?id=1218313325171&skuId=2193223&st=power supply&cp=1&lp=44 How do I know if that part will fit my computer casing? < Question

- Simple.. be sure it is an ATX power supply.... thats really all you need to know... and be sure it has the proper amount of connectors for hard drives, cdroms, and that should do it...
- All ATX power supplies are mechanically compatible. the difference can be in the number and type of power connectors to the peripherals (SATA, fans, PCI-E etc.). the 500W PSU will have more power connectors, so you have nothing to worry about...
- Be very careful - most HP's DO NOT use standard ATX PSU's. Take your computer in with you to check that a standard ATX power supply will fit.
