Gateway Parts

Should I buy computer parts long time before I build a desktop?

When I see some computer parts (such as power supply, chassis, etc) on sale, I really want to buy them, but I am not going to build my desktop until next year when I move to another city. I don't have a desktop with me now (I used to have a few but I only have a laptop now) so I can't test the parts if buy it. So is that worth it to buy parts on sale if I can't test it or install it right away?

  1. The stuff like the hard drive, power supply and case could be bought. That stuff won't be obselete by next year. Get it while it's cheap. I buy Newegg "shell shockers" all the time that sit around because I got it for 70% off instead of waiting to buy it and paying 100$ for it later when I originally got it for 30$. I'd buy the motherboard / CPU as the next to last thing, together. The last thing I'd buy is the graphics card.
