How do I get free computer parts?

I am getting ready to start taking computer science at my local community college, and I need to put together a system. I haven't had the money to build one, and doubt that I will due to bills, etc etc. I have been looking online, but it doesn't seem like there is alot out there in the way of helping people with computer parts. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I would have tried the polls or surveys, but I don't have any computer and am having to use a friend's to post this. Thanks again

1. You should look around at Computer recycling programs in your city. You can get the number from EPA website on erecycle. Then go to the closest office, DON"T CALL them and ask. Then ask them if they have any parts. Since they are going to dump it anyway, good chance they may give you for free.
