Building a computer, power supply question?
Ok, I am building a computer, and I want it to be pretty good. Not extreme high end but high end. And I'm just wondering whether my power supply would be enough. Here are the parts I have decided on. Asus P8P67 Pro motherboard Intel Core i5 2500K Asus Nvidia GTX 460 (overclocked, 768MB of memory version) Hitachi Deskstar 1.5TB HDD 7200RPM Crucial Ballistix 8GB of DDR3 RAM (4+4) Case: Corsair 600T Optical Drive: LG Electronics 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Internal Drive GH24NS50 (Black) Now my questions, Is a Corsair cx600 good enough to power all of that? It's 600 watts, I'm not sure if it's enough and if it isn't, could you please tell me how many watts I need for optimal performance? Other brands or versions? And is this a good setup? I great appreciate your time and answers, thank you.

- A 600 watt power supply is more than enough. A GTX 460 can work on 500watt's (high quality brand) to. But i would recommend getting that 600 watt corsair, sense it's good for upgrading in the future. Corsair power supply's are always top-quality. Great setup. Use this site if your unsure about what to get. It tells you exactly what wattage you would need. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp Just pick the exact parts you have in your computer, and press the calcualte on the top.
- http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power suggests between 600 and 650watt PSU so that Corsair will work fine with some room for growth. The actual pull will be around 426watts at 100% full load even taking in a 30% capacitor aging. CapacitorwhoHUH? That just "ages" your PSU a year or so because the components do slowly degrade and a year form now your PSU probably won't be performing like it was when it was new. Yes it is a good budget build. just remeber that a BIOS update may be needed immediately. Seems to be the biggest and most common gripe about the board over at newegg.com Now that I see it does support SLI I would suggest a 700 watt PSU so that you won't need to upgrade that PSU any time soon even when you do go SLI. P.S. I would really go for the EVGA 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130568&cm_re=evga_gtx_460_ar-_-14-130-568-_-Product . You get a lifetime warranty. How long will you have that computer? If it will just be a few(3) years then by all means go for the Asus. If it will be longer then I would def. go for the EVGA. It is a lot more but in the long run you will be saving a LOT of money. If your Asus dies in 3 years your out of luck. Your EVGA will be replaced.
- 95w processor, 120w card , 50w for the rest. 270w load. a quality 450w unit will do the job. I'd personally grab a 550w XFX core , 520w Antec High current gamer , a 650w XFX or Corsair TX. Don't go with the CX series, they aren't well built and use subpar capacitors.
