Gateway Parts

Will getting a better graphic card help the games on my computer run smoother?

I play a lot of MMORPG not stuff like World of Warcraft or anything but Free to play ones and a lot of them are super lag and don't run really well and i did a game scan and it says i have an old and outdated graphic card. I play on a gateway laptop and i think its a 2007-2008 Model and im still using the default graphic card that was already in it. I want to upgrade to the NVIDIA series or the GEFORCE series..(I don't know which one is better) but there so expensive...i live like 5 mins away from a Best Buy and they sell them but there like 150-300$ but i really want to get smoother gameplay and graphics. What would YOU recommend that i buy I want something that is efficient and still affordable i really don't want to spend over 200$ if possible. I think mine is an ATI graphic card and why can't i switch cards on a Laptop >:O. I can't just pay the guys at best buy to install it >:O

  1. Of course, just make sure the comp can handle it and is compatible.
  2. If you're playing MMORPG's, you don't need that great of a card. And Best Buy tends to be expensive, try using an online site like Ebay. You can get a graphics card that will play WoW very smoothly for 50 dollars without much upgrading. However, since you have a laptop, you cannot upgrade your graphics card. If you'd like to make it smoother, try overclocking it with something like RivaTuner. Also make sure your graphics driver is updated fully and turn all advanced settings down to low detail in the game you are trying to play.
  3. If you could include the card you currently use it would help more, but a card that is under 200$ that would work to your liking would probably be a NVIDA 450 GTS(the GCB marker doesn't matter normally). Oh boy a laptop...ignore this then.
  4. Computer speed depend on ram Or processor ghz If your laptop or desktop is not running as well as you would like, you can do some things to fix this problem. Sometimes it may be the things you have on your computer or you may just need to upgrade. 1 An upgrade. Sometimes a computer is just too old to keep up. With websites and programs becoming more and more advanced, you may need something a little faster to handle it. See what the requirements are to run the programs you have and make sure you meet them. For it to run smooth you may actual want to have a computer that surpasses them. Look at your processor, RAM, graphics card etc. 2 Viruses. Sometimes what makes a computer go slow is having viruses. If this is the case you will want to get anti virus software to remove the virus or spyware. Viruses can really hurt your computer if you get certain ones and even if it is not the most dangerous virus, it can still slow down your computer. Bestbuy and Walmart both sell anti virus software. Or some anti virus software can be downloaded off of the computer. 3 Deleting. Sometimes computers may run slow if you have used too much space on them. So every once in awhile it might be a good idea to clean out your computer's hardrive. But make sure that when you are deleting things off of your laptop or desktop, that you aren't deleting programs that you need.
