Gateway M series Laptop Fan Error?

I noticed yesterday the laptop was warmer than normal and that the fan wasn't spinning. When I restarted it, it got a fan error. I took out the battery and am running it on the ac cord and it works fine. Fan runs without the battery fine but it won't run at all when its inserted. Any ideas? It's about 3 years old and completely out of warranty so I can't go that route.

  1. Battery or mainboard portion that works with the battery of your laptop is bad. Aftermarket batteries can sometimes be cheap but be careful to buy one from a reputable source. Check ebay but check the seller's stats that they have thousands of 99.9% positive responses and then you are most likely fine. Just ensure the battery is an absolute match. A battery purchase may not guarantee a fix but depending on the deal you get could be a cheap trouble-shooting technique in which a $20 dollar battery is cheaper than say $149 diagnostics, etc. (just and example). Also check the support page for your laptop for an "common or known" issues regrading this. Maybe even perform this check first could be wise.
