Are gateway laptops a good laptop?

My friend has a gateway NV Series laptop and it works pretty good for him.I thought i might get one but was wondering if there were any big problems or advantages to them.

1. honestly they r as good as the next one, the real differences in a computer are the internals .
2. My big brothers both have gateway nv52's there pretty fast and good for gaming but the hinge on them loosen up over time other than that there pretty good laptops
3. Every Gateway computer I've ever seen was a total piece of crap. My experience with their laptops has been that the hardware does not hold up well. However, all laptop manufacturers have made huge improvements in the last few years and maybe they're ok now.
4. Had a gateway, brand new and got the Blue Screen of Death within 4 days of installing no other programs or going to spyware infested websites. I would suggest you go for hp or Toshiba
