Can any of my laptop computer parts still be used?

I have 3 broken laptops now. I have a Gateway laptop that is 9 years old. It's gotten 7 years of use out of it. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 which is only 3 years old, but the screen is going out, and the hard drive is overheating, so we are not spending anymore money on fixing it. I have a Toshiba Sattelite Laptop with a broken Screen about 1 year old works fine hooked up to a monitor. What parts can I save from these laptops to use in my current computers HP Pavilion Laptop 4 mo. old, 3 year old Compaq desktop, or 8 year old Dell Desktop (needs restored because of virus).

1. Not much is compatable to go from a laptop to a PC and visa versa. You can get a 2.5 to 3.5 coverter to use the hard drives in the PC.
2. Generally only the hard drive of a laptop can be used in another laptop...all the other parts(except maybe ram chips) will only work in that laptop. I'm fixing a toshiba with a broken lcd now. Ebay has a replacement for $115 including shipping..not hard to fix.
